Why Iron Grip

A better first experience makes it easier to keep going

The first few weeks matter. Iron Grip is structured so beginners and families know where they belong, what they are learning and what comes next.

Beginners have a track. Adults start in Fundamentals instead of being thrown straight into advanced classes.

Kids train by age. Four youth programmes let coaches teach at the right level instead of treating every child the same.

Progress is structured. Curricula, stripes and clear programme progression connect one class to the next.

The room is welcoming, but the training is real. Serious Jiu-Jitsu without the fight-gym ego.

You can see the standard for yourself. 181 Google reviews and real student stories give you evidence before you walk in.

I've been training at Iron Grip for about 2 and a half years. There is an amazing and welcoming community at the academy. When I first joined I was very timid and quiet but they helped me grow as a person. Over time I became more confident and pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone more often.I will always be grateful for the people I have met and experiences I've had. One of the best choices I've made.

Coming from a judo background, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this gym has stood out for its cleanliness, the strong sense of community, and the disciplined yet supportive training environment. Training has helped me come out of my shell, build confidence that carries into everyday life, and given me better problem-solving skills. It’s also been meaningful to see my children get involved too, gaining their own confidence and discipline, which really reflects the positive culture of the gym. I hope to continue training jiu-jitsu for as long as my body can handle it, because of the growth, discipline, and supportive community it continues to give us. Thank you to the coaches at Iron Grip Martial Arts for transforming us!!!

I've been training for 4 years at the academy. The quality of coaching is excellent and the community is just awesome. I highly recommend this club for anyone wanting to try BJJ. You will be made to feel welcome from day one. I started when i was 45 and morbidly obese. If i can do it so can you.

Great class structure in a fun and safe environment. Everyone is always willing to assist and give advice and help each other improve constantly. You walk in and you feel welcome and the standard of teaching is exceptional. You always leave feeling better than you did walking in. Go try it!

FAQ

Questions beginners and parents ask first

Do I need experience or fitness before starting?+

No. Adults start in the Fundamentals track built for complete beginners, and fitness develops through the training itself. You only need to be healthy enough for physical activity.

What ages do you coach?+

Adults 18+ and four age-specific youth programmes: Little Ninjas (5–7), Junior Warriors (8–11), Teen Titans (12–14) and Teen Juveniles (15–17).

What happens after I press "Explore My Options"?+

We first ask who is training. Adults complete a short form and then see available Fundamentals class times to book a first session. Parents complete a short form and then a brief trial application so we can place their child in the right programme.

Will beginners have to spar?+

Live resistance is part of Jiu-Jitsu, but it is introduced progressively and controlled by the class structure and coaches. Nobody is rewarded for smashing the new person.

What does the trial cost?+

Nothing. Adults get 3 free classes; kids and teens get 1 free trial class. There is no payment and no obligation to join afterwards.

Where is Iron Grip?+

Stonewood Business Park, Pinehurst, Kraaifontein — in Cape Town's Northern Suburbs, near Durbanville and Brackenfell, with ample on-site parking.

Are you ready to start?

Your first class does not need to be a big decision. Adults get 3 free classes. Kids and teens get 1 free trial class. Meet the coaches and see how the room feels.
